We saw this energy every week
Hallelujah! School is almost out and our school year programs just ended last week. Now we have a few short weeks to get ready for our summer programs. Can you feel the exciteement? We sure can!
Our Students get accolades
Breakthrough Literacy Program had a graduation ceremony for the students. We are happy to report that 75% of 3rd graders enrolled in our program are now reading at grade level. Overall 57% of students enrolled in our program are reading at level. They completed 1,021 hours of reading lessons. but the most incredible statistic is that only 9% were reading at level in September when the program started. I’d say that may qualify as miraculous. Credit to God and the fabulous volunteer tutors and staff who always gave more than 100%.
Tribute to Stephanie Avery
Stephanie Avery came to CDC just before Covid hit. That’s her on the left. She hit the ground running nevertheless and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to serving, loving and educating the children in our community. She never had a bad day (or maybe she did but never showed it.).
Stephanie turns 65 in June and has decided to retire; to officially become unemployed, but will be back two weeks later to work at summer day camp. Yes, that’s Stephanie–can’t keep her away from “her” kids.
We are so grateful for her, for her exuberance, her love of Jesus, her unwavering belief that every child who walks in our doors can become a champion reader and Christ follower. You set the bar very high and have left big shoes to fill. We will miss you entering every room with “praise the Lord”. Thank you Stephanie for your service.
