Just want to catch you up on all the happenings at Central Detroit Christian CDC.
- We sold our first house on Euclid Street. Our next home should be comeplete and ready for its family by the end of March, and shortly after that, our 3rd home will be ready to sell to its family as well.
- The 2024 National Math Hoops Championship will be in New York City. The judges decided this past week that the top students going to the NBA Math Hoops are: Oscar Callahan (6th grade), Henry Hills (6th grade), and maybe one more (stay tuned).
- Oscar Callahan is a special student in all our Youth Programs at CDC. He is literally at CDC 6 days a week: He attends Breakthrough Middle School program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He attends Ground Zero on Fridays. He participates in BTE Sports program on Saturday. He also receives special one on one tutoring with Stephanie on Mondays and Wednesdays. He is one of our leading NBA MATH HOOPS players who we are taking to the Pistons Center Regional Competiton in April and to the NBA National Competition in New York CIty in June. He loves CDC. Oscar along with 3 friends, Cleveland, Sy’aire and David started a podcase exploring careers in the arts. It even made the news with WXYZ. So proud of him. Five one-hour episodes are expected to air in the spring launching on the Detroit Broadcasting Channel’s You Tube page.
- Bianca, one of our adults attending BIble Study just got her certification to be a chaplain. Congratulations Bianca!
- Sid (full name is Placidia), another Bible study participant retired February 29th after serving the United States Post Office for 50 years. The Postmaster General flew in from Washington DC to honor her. Well done good and faithful servant.
- Cathy got a fantastic job offer from Ascension Hospital! We are so proud of her. Congratulations!
- Rick, our construction manager’s most recent highlight was he finally got a mechanical inspection passed that was so challenging for months! Praise God, we can finally get this project done.
- Kyle and the Forgotten Harvest volunteers just completed their second week of delivering food boxes to families that don’t have transportation.
- We are all grateful that Jermain and family survived a shower of bullets, 12 in one window alone, aimed at their home.
- Evan, our Garden Manager celebrated his first wedding anniversary this past week. Happy Anniversary Dom and Evan.
- Dorian, a middle schooler who has the option in his home to attend school or not, got back in school this month all so he could continue playing on CDC’s basketball team.
- Erica’s win this week is that 2 people now have hot water, and 3 people have furnaces. Mr. Jones, in line to get a furnace next week, broke down crying because after years of not getting help, we are helping him.
- Megan and Micah will be featured in an article for Model D media, and their 9 month old daughter learned to clap this week.
- Calvin, an adult, came back today and said “thank you” for all that you poured into me, making me the man I am today. You have helped me rise in the job market and I am so grateful.
- Darrell wrote a thank you note today: “This program takes people like me in the neighborhood who are figuring out life and helps them find their purpose and meaning. I went to the farm looking for horses and cows and left with lettuce and family who I can call at any time about anything. I’m not perfect, I am still figuring out my passions, but I am FAR from where I started.”
Jovan graduated from Boot Camp! We hoped and prayed a lot for him and he did it!- Helen’s husband had a successful surgery this week and she was able to return to work with all of us.
- Today I helped a senior get a doctor’s appointment at our clinic. I am also helping a young man get his criminal record expunged.
There’s a lot going on at CDC all the time and a whole lot being done for the kingdom. And that’s the first week of March here at CDC.
