24 Apr City Kids Soup partners with R.E.A.D.Y.
City Kids Soup partners with READY (Recruit, Employ, Advance, and Deploy Youth) to provide jobs for teens and teach them how to run a business. While in the program, teens learn how to package soup, keep track of inventory, and the basics of business operations. City Kids Soup was founded by Lisa Johanon and is currently managed by Emma Johnanon. They package soups out of the commercial kitchen within Peaches & Greens produce market at 8838 Third Avenue. City Kids Soup is a social enterprise dedicated to providing healthy food options for our community.
READY (Recruit, Educate, Advance, and Deploy Youth) partners with GDYT (Grow Detroit Young Talent) to employ over 150 students and young adults each summer (and a smaller group of teens throughout the year). It places students from our community in rigorous work experiences, while providing professional development in resume building, career mapping, and leadership development. Students who complete our program earn a competitive summer wage, and build valuable experience to take with them into the workforce.
