Homebuyer Education & Foreclosure Prevention

Home ownership has traditionally been one of the great joys and wealth enhancing opportunities of our country. In a community that has less than 40% of owner-occupied homes, we are trying to empower more and more families to purchase their own home and keep it in these difficult economic times.

We have MSHDA (Michigan State Housing Development) and NeighborWorks America certified foreclosure and home-buyer counselors who meet with families from the neighborhood that require assistance in these areas. Because of the economic pressures in the community, CDC is addressing an immediate need through this service and has helped about 300 families in 2010. Recently, we held our first housing fair for individuals to hear about the home-buying process as well as how to prevent foreclosure. We offered many exciting classes including credit repair, financial literacy, budgeting, home ownership basics, avoiding scams, home repair, and grant information.
