Creating Community Change

It’s here we build not one individual or family at a time, but one block and one neighborhood at a time bringing safe affordable housing and bringing amenities back to communities long forsaken by the business world. Using volunteers and professionals alike we tackle bricks and mortar projects including senior home repair projects for senior citizens on an annual basis; housing rehabilitation projects to restore buildings abandoned by foreclosure and to create liveable homes for low to moderate income families – many of whom are enjoying the privilege of home ownership for the first time; new construction projects including in fill housing when real estate climate is right; and commercial revitalization projects for new business entities. This is another aspect of making a community whole.

We have taken a special interest in bringing amenities back to our community that have been missing or needing updating. We believe that our commerce helps bring stability to our long term disinvested neighborhood. To date we have opened a healthy soul food restaurant, a landscaping company, a produce market and truck, a property management company and a warehouse distribution center. We desire to create access where there is non and for the double bottom line, create job opportunities for neighborhood residents while generating revenue for the businesses. We follow in the footsteps of the greatest community developer of all times – Nehemiah. He is our hero in how to change a community by making it safe and bringing people back to repopulate a city that was left in ruins.

Partners in Restoration

Our most recent partnerships with the City of Detroit Land Bank, several committed lenders and the Historic Boston-Edison Association in restoring properties in the Boston-Edison Historic District has garnered more national attention See Wall Street Journal .

Developing a community starts with developing people, but we cannot neglect their physical needs, most importantly, the need for quality affordable housing. Central Detroit Christian CDC is dedicated to meeting the housing needs of low- to moderate-income families and individuals in our community by providing beautifully restored historic homes at affordable prices.

CDC has been very active with the Central Woodward Strategic Investment Area developing a comprehensive strategy to revitalize the entire community in a multi-faceted, multi-organizational way. Our partners in this endeavor are Vanguard CDC, Child Care Coordinating Council, and Focus: Hope.
