Minor Home Repair

Minor Home Repair and Rehabilitation

Meeting Practical Needs

CDC provides minor home repair to members of the community through volunteers committed to giving assistance to those in need. Presently CDC has rehabbed 20 homes, many of which we have sold to first-time home buyers. In addition, we have rehabbed an apartment building host to low-income tenants. We have seen a dramatic impact as the face of our neighborhood has changed. Through the use of volunteer groups, we are therefore able to defray some labor costs. Those savings are passed on to the homeowner. Typically volunteers give about 7500 hours per year to assist in our housing initiatives.

And thanks to a grant in the summer of 2010, CDC hired temporary workers to board up homes, paint porches, cut grass, and trim bushes. In total, 73 homes, buildings and lots were maintained this summer by 2 men from our community, where there are a total of 83 abandoned homes and 213 vacant lots in our CHDO area.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the new furnace and getting it installed. We have heat and it was a great Christmas present besides the gifts. Thank you for letting me come to the office and use the computer and everything. You have helped my family more than you will ever know.” (Community resident)
