From the Ground Up

CDC has collaborated with the city of Detroit and LISC, a regional planner, to build brand new affordable housing from the ground up. We completed the Piety Hill nine unit project in 2006. We are now focusing on a ten-unit project called "Piety Square" within our 18 block area within which we strategically focus our housing development.

This CHDO (Community Housing Development Organization) area, a 3x6 block area as designated by the federal government, has over 200 vacant lots; with 68.7% of residents in our CHDO area being renters we are attempting to become more aggressive to stop blight and provide home ownership opportunities through developing new infill housing. Central Detroit Christian CDC is working in collaboration with Vanguard CDC and New Center Council to be strategic and effective in both planning and implementation.
