Back to School Rally
Event Details
A Neighborhood Party
The Grand Finale of each summer is our annual Back to School Rally where we distribute backpacks filled with school supplies. Several churches join in on the procurement of school supplies, food, and games, while local medical students often serve in a health screening tent. We also have local law enforcement and community agencies represented in order to give neighborhood residents easy access to a variety of community resources. It is a fun and beneficial day for everyone who participates. The event is typically held on the Saturday prior to the Labor Day weekend.
In 2008 we were able to distribute a record of 846 backpacks in one day! Because we had over 1,000 backpacks donated, we were also able to give 200 backpacks to Durfee Elementary School and 75 to McMichael Elementary School. We also gave 500 supply bags to Nolan Middle School. As for the entire event, it attracted at least 1,200 people from the neighborhood for games, food, and a celebration of our students.
